Upminster

Join us on this great ride starting at Hornchurch Stadium Car Park, the home of "The Urchins".  We take a short northerly on road ride to Upminster Windmill before joining the Ingrebourne Way riding from Upminster Park to Ingrebourne Hill, Hornchurch Country Park, Rainham and return.  There is so much to see and do on this ride you will want to keep coming back. Hornchurch Country Park is on the former site of Hornchurch Airfield and we will be passing a concrete model of a spitfire and a few pill boxes from the Second World War.  The park is a haven for wildlife, cyclists, walkers and dog walkers. At the southern of the ride we ride around Ingrebourne Hill, home of a specially made mountain bike track which people can come back to and enjoy at their leisure.  We turm round at Rainham clock tower, here you can also see 12th centrury Rainham Parish Church and 18th century Rainham Hall. We make a visit to the site of Rainham Wharf, dredged to bring shipping from the Thames before turning for home. If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.
