Beautiful route along mainly quiet farm roads with great views of Pentlands and the city. Starting near the Colinton Tunnel we will head out along the Water of Leith to Balerno. Then head out to Kirknewton by quiet farm roads. After crossing the level crossing we head up Leyden Hill which is a bit of a climb. Short section on Lang Whang A70 before heading back to Balerno via quiet farm roads again. Coffee stop in Balerno at 16 miles. After that we will head up Harlaw road giving great view over Edinburgh and on to Blinkbonny and back to Colinton.
This ride is fairly challenging with 1400ft of ascent…..but rewards are lots of downhill too!

Mostly very quiet roads with a short section (1.5 miles) on the Lang Wang.

Lovely route into West Lothian via Balerno and Kirknewton
