Mawdesley Village Hall

If you're fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour. This ride is a loop in the mostly quiet lanes around the picturesque villages of Mawdesley, Bispham Green, Heskin and Eccleston. The route is fairly flat, with a few gentle ups and downs as we skirt around the northern slopes of Parbold Hill. Local residents to look out for include the herd of Highland Cows alluded to in the title of the ride. They seem to cope well enough despite the lower altitudes here compared to their more usual habitats! Likely to be moving faster than the cattle and therefore harder to spot is Tour de France winner, multiple Olympic Gold medalist and former Sports Personality of the year Sir Bradley Wiggins, whose home is very close to the route.
