Hetton to Seaham circular

Sunday 8 March 2015 10.30am 16 miles Hetton to Seaham circular Starting point Hetton Lyons Country Park, Downs Pit Lane, Hetton le Hole, DH5 0RH Meeting at Hetton Lyons Country Park we’ll pedal our way to the seaside via Murton, East Hetton and the Road to Nowhere before enjoying our descent to the sea. We’ll stop for refreshments at The Look Out at the North Dock and then track a new route back to the start via Seaton and Great Eppleton. The ride is not too strenuous but as we are going to the seaside there is some uphill when leaving the coast and it can be breezy. Most of the ride is off road on railway paths but there will be some road riding on the way back but this will be mostly on quiet roads. A hybrid bike would be the best bet for the terrain we will be covering. The ride is suitable for you if you are looking to progress your cycling or returning after a break but with some basic fitness. Children are welcome but recommended for age 10+ due to there being some on-road riding. Helmets are compulsory for under 16s. Please don’t risk getting cold and come suitably dressed for the weather eg warm gloves, buff, extra socks/overshoes and lots of layers. Make sure you’ve got front and back lights whatever time you go out in the winter. As the weather is unpredictable at this time of year I will keep a particularly keen eye on the weather forecast and if forced to cancel I’ll let you know by 9am on the day at the very latest.
