Starting from - We will meet on Platform 2 at Grange Park Station N21 1RE. There is a ramp to the platform (no stairs).
Please arrive in good time for the train, we will board it with those present, late-comers will miss out, as trains are sadly only once every 30 minutes.
If you wish to join the train at an alternative station please contact me via Letsride to confirm timings.
Contactless payments can be used to Hertford North, but be aware this may not be the cheapest fare for your journey.
Also note that Freedom passes and over 60 Oyster cards are not valid north of Crews Hill so you will need a ticket for that part of your journey.
If you have an old-fashioned pre-paid Oyster card you can can have concessionary discounts (like the Senior Railcard) added to it at a tube station. See https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/free-and-discounted-travel/national-railcard-discount
Please read the route description to ensure the ride is suitable for you.

Starting point

Hertfordshire
SG14 1NB

We will start from Hertford North station and follow cycle routes 61, EV2 and 1, along the Lee Valley Navigation passing Ware, Stanstead St. Margarets and Lower Nazeing before riding through the Lee Valley Park to Enfield Lock where we will pick up route 12 and a portion of C20 (the New River Path), making our way southwards through the borough, finishing at Firs Farm community café.
We will stop either at the River Palace Café at Dobbs Weir or the Brew Street Kitchen and Bar at the Whitewater Centre in the Lee Valley Park depending on our progress.
There are toilets, at Hertford North station, at the cafes and at Fishers Green in the Lee Valley Park.
There is one significant hill (Clayton Hill) giving great scenic views. Whilst we will wait at the top be aware this will be a long walk if you are unable to ride all the way up.
Please wear a helmet, bring lots of water to stay hydrated, snacks if required and
wear suitable clothing for the time of year.
Please ensure your bike is in good working order with brakes and gears fully functioning.
Also make sure you carry a spare inner tube in case of a puncture.

Route rating

0 stars (0) Reviews

This is a train-assisted ride. We will take the train to Hertford North station where we will start the ride back to Enfield. The route will be a maximum of 24 miles, but up to 4 miles less for people who live towards the north of the borough and wish to shorten it.

This ride is predominantly off-road on cycle-paths with varying surfaces: paved, gravel and asphalt. Some parts are narrow and uneven with tree roots. There are some narrow bridges, some with slightly tricky approaches. Much of the route is alongside the canal.

This ride is suitable for riders who have good bike-handling skills and who are able to ride for around three and a half hours at a steady speed.
