Starting at Herrington County Park the route takes us on quiet roads and downhill all the way to Cox’s Green. Crossing the River Wear here, we’ll join the NCN7 and follow this route towards Sunderland. Once on Barmston Lane we follow the cycle track/paths over the Sunderland Highway and follow it around the outskirts of Nissan, arriving at Elm Tree Farm for some delicious food.
Our return journey retraces the route backwards, yes that means going up Cox Green Bank and part of Langdale Road bank in Penshaw before we do a little detour through the housing estate back to Herrington Park.
