Half Term - Down the Canal to Brighouse

Hi, I'm Kate and I hope you’ll be able to join me for a bike ride on traffic-free cycle paths from Salterhebble to Brighouse. We’ll meet in the car park of the lock-keeper’s cottage on the A6026 Wakefield Road at Salterhebble. After a quick helmet and bike check, we’ll set off on the National Cycle Network route 66. It's mainly on traffic-free cycle paths all the way to Brighouse, except for a short section at the Barge & Barrel at Elland Bridge, where we have to get to the other side of the canal. We can push our bikes on the path if we want to, so there’s no need to ride on the road. At Brighouse, we’ll park up pop into town for a coffee and a chat. Don’t worry if you don’t have a bike lock, as I will bring spares to lock all the bikes together. When we’re ready to head back, we’ll meander back the way we came, at a nice leisurely pace. We should be back at Salterhebble for lunchtime. This is an easy going ride, so we can stop as many times as we like. The cycle path is well surfaced and nice and flat, so the cycling is easy. What a great way to spend a Tuesday morning! Please bring a drink with you, plus layers to keep you warm and probably some waterproofs too if the forecast is a bit damp. Helmets are essential for children, and advisable for adults, so if you don't have one, don't worry, you can still join the ride.
