Starting from - The theatre, hailed by The Independent as "the most beautifully located and friendly theatre in Britain", opened in 1999. It is set a short stroll from Derwentwater on the edge of Keswick, amid the magnificent western fells of the Lake District.

We have two stages, a 400-seat Main House and 100-seat Studio; we present up to nine of our own productions of classic, modern and new plays throughout the year. Six plays are performed in repertory from May to November.

We aim to produce a new play every year and our Christmas shows have become firm favourites with family audiences. We aim for the highest standards of production and design and many Theatre by the Lake productions have won multi-star reviews from national and local critics.

The theatre hosts a variety of festivals and visiting companies and is open for 49 weeks each year, going dark for 3 weeks in January for general maintenance. Box Office remains open as usual during these 3 weeks. CA12 5DG

Departing Keswick and heading immediately west you will see one of England’s highest mountains, Skiddaw to your right followed very quickly by Bassenthwaite Lake. The course makes good use of the A66 at a time of day when traffic is light, travelling towards Cockermouth before heading south west on to the A5086.

This undulating section affords stunning views of the Lakeland fells to your left before a right turn at Lamplugh takes The Half athletes away from the full course for the first time. Taking in the picturesque villages of Ullock, and Branthwaite before meeting the full course again at Distington.

An out and back section on the A595 brings the course back north, and a flat and fast section between Distington and Cockermouth promises to be one of the quickest parts of the course, as riders should get the benefit of the prevailing south westerly wind. After leaving Cockermouth utilizing the full course route again the Lakeland fells come into view once more.

Heading back to Keswick on the A66 ready to begin the half marathon.

56miles of superb Cumbrian countryside with the potential for some quick times.
