Hiagh Hall - Tour of Britain 2019
The UK’s premier bike race, the Tour of Britain is coming to Wigan. The final stage in this year’s ride finishes on the streets of Manchester but before that, the race passes through many parts of Greater Manchester, including Wigan. The race comes into Wigan via Blackrod, passing through Little Scotland; along Meadow Pit Lane before a left turn to climb up School Lane and pass Haigh Hall.
To celebrate this major event Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles is organising a Velo Village located in the grounds of Haigh Hall with local cycling and other healthy living groups promoting their services. There are plans to have a large screen showing live coverage of the race including the finish in Manchester city centre.
As part of this celebration Wigan Borough Community Cycling Club (WBCCC) and HSBC British Cycling Guided Rides is organising a 22 mile ride finishing at Haigh Hall around 1.00pm. This is intended to give riders ample time to explore the Velo Village but also find a spot to watch the race come along School Lane as they race up to the Balcarres Arms in Haigh village.
This mainly on road route goes from Trencherfield Mill, Wigan, up through Standish, Coppull and Chorley town centre before turning back towards Horwich via Rivington. It’s through Rivington that the route leaves the tarmac for a small section of off-road riding as it makes its way into Horwich. From the Crown Hotel in the centre of Horwich the last 5 miles follows the route the Tour of Britain riders will follow as they make their way through Blackrod, Little Scotland and into Haigh Hall. And it’s in Haigh Hall that our route finishes and riders can explore the Velo Village and enjoy the range of drinks and refreshments on offer in the village.

A 22 mile circular route from Wigan, through Standish, Coppull, Chorley and Horwich. The final 5 miles from Horwich will cover the route followed by the Tour of Britsh riders as they make their way into Wigan.

It is predominately on road with a short section through Rivington off -road.

Refreshments are available at the end of the ride in Haigh Hall Velo Village

All riders will be required to wear helmets. A basic repair kit is advised.
