This is one of my favourite routes, going along pretty lanes with good views, so fingers crossed for the weather! The route to the Fiddle Drill is hilly, but none of the hills is very steep and it's always OK to walk. Coming back is downhill and then flat.

Please bring an inner tube for your bike, a pump, a drink and money for refreshments. I hope to buy a light lunch at the Fiddle Drill but if you don't think you'll do this, please also bring something to eat. Cycling is an excellent excuse for keeping yourself well-fed! Helmets are advisable but not compulsory and please come prepared for changeable weather.

Additional important info arising from the covid pandemic:

British Cycling are sticking strictly to government guidelines. Leaders have been told not to touch participants' bikes except as a last resort. If everyone could check their bikes extra carefully before coming, it would be great. British Cycling's Commuting bike check video is good : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V66yzbrZxvY.

This is a lovely route and although there are hills, none is too steep and you'll be rewarded with views.

Most of the lanes are very quiet, although the road back through North Cliffe and south Cliffe is busier.

Everyone can stop to catch their breath and have a drink whenever they want and there will be stops along the way, too. The rule is that everyone goes up hills at their own pace - and my advice is that a slow pace is best - admire the roadside flowers as you climb! The plan is to have something to eat at the Fiddle Drill.

Helmets are advisable, as are gloves. Please bring an inner tube and pump for your bike, a drink and money for refreshments. We'll meet outside the gates to Hotham Hall on Nordham. There's a pull-in with some parking nearby.

First-timers welcome!
