Gilesgate to Rainton Meadows Winter Breeze

Sunday 5 Feb 2017 11am 16 miles Gilesgate to Rainton Meadows Winter Breeze Starting on Rennys Lane in Gilesgate opposite Gary Potts Motors DH1 2RW we’ll pedal our way to Durham Wildlife Trust’s Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve where we can enjoy refreshments at the welcoming Meadows coffee shop. Most of the ride is off road following Rennys Lane and the Hetton railway path with a 2 mile stretch on-road between Sherburn and Pittington. However, this is not normally busy. For Durham this is a ‘flat ride’ with just one noticeable hill along Rennys Lane. We’ll be mainly retracing our route on the way back. Children are welcome but recommended for age 10+ and with experience of cycling due to there being some on-road riding. Helmets are compulsory for under 16s. The off-road sections are a decent surface however it is winter and we are likely to end up mucky! Please come suitably dressed with thick gloves, buff, lots of layers and waterproofs.
