Leave Hike & Bike Hub, walk across Douglas Bridge to join the shared cycle path. Cross over Stirling Street, follow the shared path and cross the roundabout near Asda. Stay on shared path alongside the Gala Water towards Galafoot. Turn left and stay on shared path up Winston Road, crossing over at the railway bridge. Stay on shared path through Tweedbank to crossing point on main road. We will walk across road and ride on the road through Darnick to rejoin the shared path into Melrose. Refreshment stop! Return by reverse route, rejoining the shared path towards Darnick. On road section through Darnick before crossing the busy main, road. Rejoin the shared path through Tweedbank, back to Winston Road. Cross over and use shared path from Galafoot alongside the Gala Water back to Galashiels Town Centre.

This route is suitable for everyone, including those new or returning to cycling and for those who want to cycle in a small, social group. We start at Hike & Bike Hub, before we follow the shared path alongside the Gala Water, through Tweedbank, following Sustrans route 1 via Darnick and the shared path to Melrose. Return route in reverse.

Most of the route is along the shared cycle path, Sustrans route 1 between Galashiels and Melrose. After crossing a busy road (on foot), there is a short on-road section through Darnick Village before rejoining the shared path into Melrose. Return route is reverse, back to Galashiels. Free bike hire is available thanks to funding support from Scottish Borders Council's Community Cycling Fund

We can stop at any point along the road as required! One good place to stop along the way is Tweedbank Railway Station, And the refreshment stop in Melrose of course!

All riders are advised to wear a helmet, sunscreen and to be prepared for all weathers given our Scottish climate! Please bring a spare inner tube and mini pump for your bike. You may also want to bring water or juice for the ride. Please also bring money for the refreshment stop in Melrose.

This is a mostly easy, flat ride with some short sections on the road. We will ride at a pace suitable for everyone.
