From Ashton Court and over The Mendips

This ride takes us from Ashton Court, meeting in the car park by the Mansion House, up from Kennel Lodge Road, by the Bower Ashton Campus (£1 parking fee). We will be taking on a section of the Great Weston Ride (a fabulous 56-mile challenge bike ride from Bristol to Weston-super-Mare that follows a spectacular route through the Mendips and across the Somerset Levels on 21 July 2013)  http://www.greatwestonride.com/index.htm New faces are always welcome. This is a challenging 40 mile ride, hilly in places, along main roads ideally for experienced riders.  We will be riding through the villages of Long Ashton, Barrow Gurney, Winford, Blagdon, up Burrington Combe, down to Compton Martin, along to Harptree, Chew Stoke and back to Winford & Long Ashton, before heading back to Ashton Court.   See route map: http://www.gb.mapometer.com/cycling/route_2522645.html It's a good idea to bring some water and an energy drink or snack.  We will stop in Blagdon for a toilet and quick refreshments en route. Please bring some money if you want to buy refreshments afterwards when we get back, where there'll be time for more chat and a warming drink or bite to eat at the coffee shop. Wearing a helmet is advisable; if you don’t have one please do not to worry you can still take part.  If you enjoy the bike ride and would like to come again perhaps you could look to buy one then.
