Friday night pedal away to 5 Durham Stations

This short ride will initially go out east to Sherburn via the former Gilesgate station and follow the roads to Bowburn as we delve into railway history and seek out the 5 stations of Durham. We start with the Leamside line at high Shincliffe before freewheeling downhill to old Shincliffe village and view the remains of the first station in Durham. A little sojourn along the river brings us to Elvet station before a climb up to our final whistle stop, the current station built on the 11 arches viaduct with probably the greatest view of the cathedral and castle in the land.

As always we can’t predict the weather so please dress suitably. You may well need gloves and a buff to keep your neck warm. Please come with bike lights in case light conditions are dreary.

In order for the ride to leave promptly, please be punctual so we can carry out bike checks, etc. prior to us setting off. Please make sure your bike is in working condition and bring a spare tube to fit your tyres. Expect to be out for about two hours.
