About the route
Starting point
South Yorkshire S11 7TY
If you want to tick off four of the 100 Greatest Climbs in one day, here is the perfect ride for you. Setting off from Fox House on the edge of the Peak District, the route starts with a descent through Nether Padley and Grindleford to Calver. This leads to Curbar Edge, the first big climb of the day, followed by a descent and few miles of rolling countryside past the Chatsworth Estate. The road then heads up again for the second big climb of Rowsley Bar. After descending again we reach Matlock where the course follows a figure of eight to take in two more major climbs. From there the route heads back past Chatsworth again before climbing up Froggatt back to Fox House. Although the route has a number of major climbs, we'll take our time and stop for breathers whenever needed. It is also possible to miss out one or two of the climbs in Matlock, where we will also stop for food and drinks. As this is a long ride, don't forget to bring plenty to eat and drink along the way.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS
We recommend that you wear a helmet. Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing for the weather.
As usual we do expect you to have ensured your bike is roadworthy and that you have carried out basic pre-ride checks; we recommend that you also carry at least one spare inner tube, a pump (CO2 inflators are also highly recommended). If you have a mechanical problem we will do our best to assist you and/or lend you an inner tube or repair kit if we can, but it is always best to be self-reliant. Don’t forget to bring money for refreshments and a mobile phone.
