Kippax Leisure Centre

Starting out from the Kippax Leisure Centre it won’t be long before we are off the road and using sections of ‘The Lines Way’ to get out to the RSPB St Aiden’s Bird Sanctuary.  This disused railway line has now been developed into a recreational route linking Garforth and Allerton Bywater and is popular walkers, cyclists and horse riders alike.  We will be on it for about a mile before we reach St Aiden’s and start our journey around the reed beds and listen out for the deep booming call of courting bitterns.  With great scenic views, vibrant wildlife to keep your eyes out for and a causeway to negotiate this ride will definitely have you senses stimulated. We have a planned stop just after halfway, so please bring some refreshments as we cannot guarantee the pub will be open.  A quick spin past Lemon Royd Marina and a short run alongside the River Aire will take us back to ‘The Lines Way’ to get us back to the Kippax Leisure Centre and bring this mostly off-road  to a close. If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.
