Starting point

Durham
DH1 1DZ

We will visit some of the locations created by the famous/infamous Bishop Ranulfus Flambard (1099-1129) who before coming to Durham he was imprisoned by Henry I in the White Tower of London. He then escaped and some years later made peace and took up his position as Durham’s Bishop. He commissioned hospitals, bridges and a lot of what we see in Durham today.
Our route takes us past his Hospital, his market place and first bridge over the Wear. Up to the cathedral to see his Palace Green before winding our way along the river back to the start.

Come and join us on this short meander to burn off all those excessive calories from the day before
