Starting from - Broompark, once a coal mine and coal storage depot,was also a junction of three railway lines.The
area has been completely transformed and these days it is a popular picnic area and the hub of
three reclaimed Railway Paths:

A mix of gravel and tarmac with a small amount of road to join it all together. Using the Lanchester walkway to houngsill we start on a traffic free route for 12 miles to a fuel stop. Continue on the gravel tracks traffic free to Consett and Chester le Street. At Chester le Street we join the road and head to the riverside park for another fuel stop and ice cream. The return to durham is on the roadside cycle path traffic free on smooth tarmac.
