Something different and traffic free - Le Tour de Nutbrook. From Trent Lock up the Erewash Canal and Nutbrook Trail to the calorific oasis that is the Nutbrook Coffee Shop. 10 miles distance each way, so you need to be comfortable riding for a couple of hours, although it is mostly flat. Pace will be steady, as no one will get left behind, and if the trail is busy with walkers and cyclists, progress will be stately rather than speedy. The paths are all surfaced, if a bit rough in places. Possible to ride it on a road bike, I guess, but if your tyres are less than 28mm it may not be comfortable. Given the surface and numbers of hedges, bring a spare inner tube and a pump, and some money for the café, which is invariably busy, despite being inaccessible by car.
