Lets have an away day then - to Carsington Water.
For anyone who hasn't been before, it's a man made reservoir on the edge of the Peak District. The family friendly bike trail around the lake is about 8 miles long, but it has quite a few short sharp hills to get up and over - all of which make nice scenic walks if we can't manage to ride up them. Some of you may even fancy a second lap after we've checked out the café(s).
This ride is NOT suitable for road bikes, but hybrids, CX/gravel bikes and mountain bikes should be fine. The trails are gravel surfaced, so will be messy rather than muddy - you and your bike will probably get dirty! There is bike hire available at the visitor centre for anyone needing to - please contact them in advance to arrange.
As always, we'll ride at the pace of the people at the back, no one will get left behind. Parts of the route are a bit exposed as we are quite high up, so dress accordingly - it could be a pleasant sunny spring day or it could be snowing up there.
Bring a working bike, a working helmet, a working sense of humour, some cash/cards for the car park and café stop and an inner tube to fit your tyres. A small bike lock might be handy to have while we are in the café.
