FBC to the Mutton at Hazeley Heath via Mattingley & Dipley

A steady ride over to the Mutton pub at Hazeley Heath, where they serve coffee and pastries in the mornings - but we will cycle the long way round to get there! We'll start with a climb up White Horse Lane to Finchampstead Church, then a big downhill to Eversley Cross, followed by cycling on roads to Bramshill and down Plough lane to Hazeley Heath. We'll then ride along some lovely country lanes to visit the pretty Mattingley Church (15th Century) and downhill to pass Dipley Mill. A couple of lanes with short uphill sections take us to our well-earned coffee stop. (after 12 miles.) The return route is up Plough Lane, across Bramshill Forest tracks, over the New Mill Ford and along Park Lane to Finchampstead.

There are some hills but none of them are too long and of course there are downhills too and we will always stop and wait. There are some bumpy lanes and off-road tracks through the forest, so not really suitable for road bikes with skinny tyres.

You must please wear a cycle helmet and dress appropriately for the cooler weather. Please bring with you: cash or card to pay for coffee, bottle of water, a spare inner tube to fit your wheel size and a pump and bike lock if you have them. Please check your bike before coming out, especially: tyres inflated (makes cycling easier!) both brakes working and oil on the chain.
