The car-park at Savile Town Wharf (canal basin) 66 Mill Street East, Savile Town, Dewsbury. Where The Leggers pub and Old Stables Cafe are located.
Starting from the canal basin in Savile Town (toilets, cafe, pub & car-park) we'll head out onto the Dewsbury to Ossett Greenway exploring the route through the Earlsheaton Railway Tunnel.
We'll then loop out on the canal towpath through Thornhill Lees to Dewsbury Moor, link onto the Spen Valley Greenway and check out the permissive bridleway in Dewsbury Country Park.
Homeward bound, the Calder Valley Greenway will bring us back into Dewsbury town centre and a return to the start where we'll have earned a steaming brew and a butty!
Estimated time 2.5 hours, a distance of about 11 miles on a level route (no big hills!). Most of the route is on tarmaced greenways but a section on canal towpath is a bit rough and uneven.
Road bikes not recommended, please bring hybrid bikes - something with a bit of a chunky tyre :-)
Families welcome.
