Most of this route is on traffic free cycle paths or trails. There is one short stretch on quiet or residential roads.
We start in a quiet parkland area before moving off along a network of cycle paths. There is a gradual climb but there's no need to rush. We join a cycle path which takes us alongside the busy roads leading to the A419. There will be several roads to cross using the designated crossing points - again there is no hurry, we'll take our time to ensure everyone crosses safely.
At the junction by the Cold Harbour pub, it will be necessary to dismount and walk across the road, one at a time. We'll regroup in Turnpike Road and head down to Kingsdown Lane (this is the only road section in the ride). Please take care here as we will pass a mix of residential and commercial properties.
The surface changes to a dirt track which we'll follow, skirting Stratton Woods and Kingsdown Crematorium, before turning left into the Stanton Park estate. This part of the ride may be muddy if there has been recent rain, so we'll adjust our speed accordingly.
Depending on the weather and the collective view of the group, we will take time to explore a little of the Park and its lake. If you would like more information on the Park, please visit
https://www.swindon.gov.uk/info/20077/parks_and_open_spaces/488/stanton_parkWe may be able to visit a suitable venue for refreshments, depending on opening times.
Please bring a water bottle full of your favourite drink as there may not be any suitable refreshment points. Similarly, you may wish to bring a small snack with you.
For all our rides you should bring at least a spare inner tube and a pump. If your wheels are bolted on, then a spanner that fits the nuts is also essential.
Helmets are not compulsory but most definitely recommended for adults; children must wear a helmet.
You should dress appropriately for the weather and consider bringing your mobile phone. Please note that many cafes and shops are only accepting card payments at the moment
