Cycle ride: 3 forts, 1 bird reserve, 1 abandoned air raid shelter and marshes, sea and sky.(about 20 miles)
Good cycling weather is forecast for Wednesday, so I plan to explore the coast and sea wall east of Gravesend.
We cycle out of Gravesend on national cycle route 1 by the Thames and Medway canal, then turn north through the Shorne Marshes to Shornemead Fort.

We cycle along the sea wall through Higham Saltings and Higham Marsh and Higham Creek where we hope to see the remains of Nore Fort.

Then on past Cliffe Fort and the Brennan Torpedo station

We will cycle further along the sea wall to Lower Hope point and back then along Meade sea wall to Cliffe where we visit the church, churchyard and the old charnel house (for storing bodies found on the marshes).

We may also see some lovely birds at Cliffe Pool RSPB reserve

And hope to explore the salt lane air raid shelters

Lunch will be at the Six Bells
http://www.sixbellscliffe.co.uk
After lunch we cycle past Cooling Castle, Cliffe Woods to Higham where we catch the train back to London.
Hybrids or Mountain bikes strongly recommended as there will be some rough off road sections (but no hills) - no skinny wheeled road bikes!
NB The route of this ride partially overlaps with others I've done on the Hoo Peninsular but I've not done the coastal and sea wall sections or the Cliffe and Nore Forts or the Air Raid Shelter
