This is an easy (relatively for the Dales) road ride with amazing views and a friendly cycling café. The route is an ‘undulating’* uphill along the back road to St John’s Chapel and the Chatterbox Café where we will be guaranteed a warm welcome. The return route is back along the same route which is again undulating but downhill! There is about 1 mile on the main road in St John’s Chapel but this is also relatively quiet. This is a slow paced ride (on average for the entire ride of about 8 miles per hour - I will be on a mountain bike). Like most moderate rides in County Durham there is about 1000 ft of accent for every 10 miles. Some of the sections have amazing views (are quite exposed) so please wear appropriate clothing for the Dales and please bring a spare inner tube. Although not compulsory if over 16 years of age please consider wear a cycling helmet. If you can’t come on the ride please cancel as places are limited. Thanks to local lass and Breezer Jen Robinson for making me aware of this route. *Undulating means there are still some short steepish up and down hills but nothing you can’t manage!
