This is the first in a series of four rides which gradually increase in distance to build up confidence about riding a bike. Join us for all four rides or pick and choose the one(s) which are best for you. Our pace will be slow and steady to allow everyone to get to know each other and gain confidence cycling within the group. We’ll always ride at the pace of the slowest rider, so no-one is left behind.
Starting outside the main entrance of River Park Leisure Centre we will start with a loop around the park on traffic free shared paths before heading to the cycle path by the weirs and the quiet historic back streets of Winchester. There will be a short section on St Cross Road before returning to Winchester along Five Bridges road and the traffic free Viaduct Way. The on road sections are short or on quiet roads and will be carefully managed to ensure everyone feels supported.
Please check your bike is in good working order with tyres pumped to the correct pressure and conduct a pre-ride safety check on your bike.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V66yzbrZxvYDress appropriately for the weather and wearing a cycle helmet is strongly recommended. Please bring the usual kit in case of puncture; inner tube, tyre levers and pump. If the weather is dull bring lights for your bike. There is no coffee/tea stop on this ride but please bring a drink and a snack, if you think you need one.
PLEASE NOTE Due to current restrictions surrounding COVID19 we will be limiting numbers and riding with social distancing measures in place. Please have disposable gloves, hand sanitiser and mask (precautionary only) with you on this ride and do not attend if you are feeling unwell. Also, please remember to cancel if your plans change, that way another rider can have a place.
There is no charge for car parking at Hillier Way car park for the first three hours.
Please feel free to message me if you have any questions.
We especially welcome newcomers!
