This is the perfect ride if you’re a recent convert to cycling or out of practice, being a short local ride with a visit to one of Durham’s hidden away gems.

We’ll start from outside the Gala and tackle the worst bit (hill) first by heading up Framwellgate Peth to the DLI. We’ll continue on along the fabulous new tarmac, past Rivergreen and on to Vets4Pets and through Newton Hall to Brasside and down to Finchale.
We can stop here to admire the Monk’s former holiday retreat and the mighty River Wear as it curves a loop and is rather stunning.

We’ll return via Brasside, down the off-road delight of Frankland Lane to emerge back at the river at Crook Hall. Who knows, we may well be tempted to stop for a coffee here.

We will be riding decent surfaced off road paths and quiet roads and any bike will cope with the surface.

Because this is Durham, our ride isn’t flat as we must climb up away from the River Wear before descending back down to it at Finchale. However, hills mean views and a big sense of satisfaction.

In order for the ride to leave promptly, please be punctual so we can carry out bike checks, etc. prior to us setting off. Please make sure your bike is in working condition and bring a spare tube to fit your tyres. Expect to be out for about 2.5 hours. Please come suitably dressed. Finchale can be a chilly spot so come prepared.

As the weather can be unpredictable at this time of year we may alter the ride slightly if conditions are not great and we'll make any decision to cancel/amend by 8.30am on the morning and let you know via the conversation tab within the ride booking system.
