Beside the Leigh Arms at Acton Swing Bridge A49 Warrington Rd, Little Leigh, Northwich,

This is a gentle ride that takes a lovely scenic route from Acton Swing Bridge, under the A49, along the river and past the Locks to Blue Bell Nursery and back. It's just a short 5 miles total for those wanting to get back on their bikes or explore this scenic route. It's also great for children as there is a lot of variety on the short route and a chance to cycle up and over some little bridges. The ride follows the River Weaver for 1 mile to Dutton Locks, then on round through Dutton Park Woodlands and grass land for another 1.5 miles to Blue Bell Nursery. We can stop at the nursery for a browse and refreshments in their fab little cafe before making our way back. The home made cake and scones are worth the effort alone! Best suited to a mountain or hybrid bike as a very short part of the route is a gravelly path (with some pot holes). The route is virtually traffic free, though the first part to Dutton Locks has the occassional car accessing the lock cottages. The latter part takes onto a short stretch of lane where we need to watch out for the occassional tractor before turning into the nursery. We also pass a field of shetland ponies who are very cute but do nibble on occassion! Parking available on quiet lanes beside pub. Parking available in pub for customers as well.
