Durham to Iveston Circular

This ride follows the route of the Durham Big ride, which will take place on 1st September. It's ideal for anyone considering entering the Big Ride or the Beast and will give you experience of the hill climbs, great views and lovely Lanchester Valley railway line return. Starting at County Hall we will ride up to Sacriston (this is the worst part of the ride - as the road will be quite heavily trafficked) from Sacriston we will turn left and cycle up to Charlaw and then along to Maiden Law, skirting Annfield Plain before dropping down to the bottom of Iveston Bank. From there it’s a grit your teeth to see how good the gears on your bike are and how far you can get up the bank! But that is the worst climb! After that it's a down towards Delves and we'll stop for coffee and cake at Knitsley Farm cafe. Following this delicious refreshment break we will continue to descend back to Durham offroad on the Lanchester Valley railway Line eventually leaving the railway at Baxter Wood to cut up onto the National Cycle Route and back via North End to County Hall. It’s a lovely ride - with a couple of challenging hills and a great cafe stop and we hope you can join us.
