Durham Breeze into the New Year

Friday 2nd January 2015 25 miles 10.30am Durham Breeze into the New Year Witton Gilbert to Hownsgill Pedal with us into a New Year of cycling. This is a varied but challenging ride, initially enjoying mainly quiet roads from Witton Gilbert via Charlaw, Sacriston, Edmondsley and following the Congburn via Burnhope to reach the Consett Sunderland Railway Path (C2C) near Greencroft. From here the remainder of our ride will be off road along railway paths with lunch in Consett. I The first half of the ride is the most challenging with an immediate ascent to Charlaw and then a steady climb up the Congburn Valley. However, once we’ve gained our height we keep to the contour along the railway path before descending back into the Browney Valley back to the start. The railway path sections are mainly a good surface so the ride will be suitable for all bikes apart from very skinny road tyres. If you’re looking to progress from short rides to something a more stimulating this is the ride for you. But please don’t risk getting cold and come suitably dressed for the weather. Make sure you’ve got front and back lights whatever time you go out in the winter. As the weather is unpredictable at this time of year I may alter the ride slightly if conditions are not great.
