It’s a good weather forecast for next Saturday, so I’m sure we’ll enjoy our September Breeze ride.
I’ve called it ‘Dumbell’ because of the route’s shape on the map – there’s a short, repeated stretch, but it’s basically 2 linked circuits to the West of Shipston. We have ridden the roads before, but not necessarily in the direction of this route. So … it’s 16 miles in total on low trafficked country roads, with a couple of crossings of the Fosse Way. The gradient is gently undulating – some uphill pulls and downhill compensations. If the ‘ups’ prove too challenging, we can always get off and walk; we wait at the tops for everyone to get their breath back and no-one is left behind.
We’ll take our coffee stop at the Community Café in Ilmington, so bring with you the wherewithal to pay for your drink/eat. A bottle of water is useful for our breather stops along the way.
Ensure your bike is still in good working order after the Summer and in a roadworthy condition – especially the brakes, gears and tyres. Working lights are a good idea – even in the daylight – as we often ride along tree-shaded stretches of road.
Keep an eye on the weather forecast and gear up accordingly - it’s helpful to vehicle drivers if you can wear bright colours that show up easily. A properly fitting helmet is recommended but is not compulsory.
