Driffield Leisure Centre

This is an ideal ride for those of you who have already taken part on a BREEZE ride or are confident with the published route. From the Leisure Centre, we will head out of Driffield via Spellowgate and then have a gentle incline for a couple of miles before we descend into a picturesque valley for a steady cycle along the peaceful countryside, where we can observe wildlife along the way. The challenge begins after a low gear is selected for a hard, but worthwhile, climb up towards Cowlam. We will all gather at the top of the hill where we can then look forward to a downhill ride into Sledmere, taking in the wonderful architecture as we cycle through the village to the Christmas Fair. The eleventh annual Christmas Craft and Food Fair features over 100 stalls selling crafts, gifts, decorations and food for the festive period.

Visitors are welcome to walk in the gardens (not normally open to the public during winter.) The Terrace Cafe and Fair Cafe will be open 10.00 am to 4.00 pm; both will be selling a variety of delicious winter warmers, light bites, hot drinks and snacks.

Admission to the Fair is £3.75 for adults, £3.50 for concessions and £1.50 for children. We intend to spend a couple of hours at the Fair before our return journey to Driffield. As we leave village behind us, we climb up to the Sledmere Momument and descend with a panoramic view of East Yorkshire in front of us all the way to Garton. With the famous Norman Church on our right we only have a couple of miles to cycle back to Driffield and up to the Leisure Centre. Please remember to check the weather forecast the night before and wear suitable clothing for the ride. It is always advisable to wear a helmet. Please also bring some money for refreshments and entry to the Christmas Fair. A water bottle on the bike is a good idea too. As with all our rides, should we have to cancel due to adverse weather conditions, we will endeavour to inform all registered riders beforehand and will always be at the start venue from 9.45am on the day of the ride.
