Holme Head House Community Atelier, Holme Head Way, Denton Holme, Carlisle

A good safe family ride. Not too hilly & mostly off road... A steady ride which leaves Holme Head Community Atelier straight onto the traffic-free Caldew Cycleway to make its way first to Cummersdale and then on to Dalston. There are fantastic views of the River Caldew and the distant Lakeland Fells as we cruise the cycleway. There's a real feeling of being close to nature as we progress up the valley with the river meandering and gushing on our left. We reach Dalston without encountering any hills and can take a well earned break at the deli-cafe or Blue Bell Inn - or just picnic by the river. Suitably rested we are rewarded with a gradual down-valley cruise all the way back to Denton Holme. This is a real treat of a ride which leaves the hustle and bustle of the city straight away. Its suitable for anyone who can ride a bike (age 5+). There is light traffic in Dalston but even this can be avoided if desired by pushing your bikes from the end of the cycle track to the village centre.
