Marl Pits Leisure Centre, Newchurch Road, Rawstenstall

Beginners' road ride! It's short - but steep. We'll head out of Rawtenstall up Newchurch Road and take Burnley Road East up over the tops. Then it's left and up to Crown Point - one of the "100 Greatest Cycling Climbs" in Simon Warren's book. Don't panic! We all go up at our own pace, and meet at the top. Then it's down and back through Crawshawbooth and home, a nice loop. It's 13.5 miles, with 1154 feet of ascent, so you will need a reasonable range of gears on your bike. Road bikes and hybrids are suitable (I've done it on both). Please note it can be chilly on an evening up there so bring layers, and some food/drink for yourself. If it is a grey and gloomy evening you may wish to bring lights even though we will be back before dark - and a suitable inner tube for your bike! Come and challenge yourself!
