We follow the Manchester Ship Canal on flat roads through Stockton Heath. At Grappenhall Village there is a steady climb to Barley Castle. We then turn and pass through Appleton Thorn and head south towards Arley. Following a right turn we then meander through off the beaten track little farm lanes to emerge north of Great Budworth.
Our route then heads downhill to our cafe stop with panoramic views of Pickmere Lake and the distant hills of the Peak District.
Our return route passes through Antrobus and Higher Whitley to gain the descent from Hatton back into Walton and the end of the ride at The Stag Public House.
