Starting point

Suffolk
IP33 1RD

Whepstead means ‘the place where willow grows’ and the village is a small community
set in gently rolling Suffolk countryside. It was once the property of Bury Abbey until the Dissolution ofthe Monasteries in the 16th century, after which it passed into the hands of the Drury family. The
Church is of great interest being dedicated to St Petronilla, the only such dedication in England.

The village originally contained 5 public houses:The Black Horse; The Greyhound; The Pear Tree;
The Stag; and The White Horse. Only the 17th century White Horse remains.

Route rating

0 stars (0) Reviews

Cycling from Bury St Edmunds to Whepstead is expected to be a relatively short, straightforward ride, likely taking around 30 minutes on a well-maintained road

Route and Terrain: Distance: The distance is approximately 5 miles. Surface: The road is generally well-maintained. Traffic: The roads are likely to be relatively quiet, but it's always important to be aware of other traffic.

We are planning a nice steady ride out to the White Horse at Whepstead, a return journey of approximately 11 miles. It will be a social ride stopping for phtos and a comfort break at the Whepstead white Horse, which has a pleasant beer garden

Safety: Wear appropriate cycling gear, including a helmet, and be aware of your surroundings.
