Coalville Colliery & Railway History Ride

This ride celebrates the rich industrial history of Coalville and the local area. A British Cycling Ride Leader and member of the Leicestershire Industrial History Society, with the kind support of Swannington Heritage Trust, invites you to join a pedal powered history tour of the local Colliery & Railway history. This ride of 13.5 miles takes in over 10 points of Colliery & Railway history en route, with background being provided by a local historian accompanying the ride. The ride pace will be steady, at around 8-10mph, with the total riding time being around 2 hours. With stops, the total duration will be over 3 hours. The majority of this ride is on road, sticking to quiet roads where possible, but with some short stretches of busier road. There are some short hills along the way. If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.
