Meet the authors/photographer of the new book Coal and Community in Wales on this free family-friendly Guided Ride for Ogwr History Month.

At the end of this sociable, easygoing ride, photographer Richard Williams offers a free guided tour of his exhibition of pictures from the final years of the mining industry in the Bridgend Valleys. These emotive images, which capture a pivotal time in the heritage of the Valleys, will be displayed in the Y Nyth building at Bryngarw Park, courtesy of Awen Cultural Trust.

We'd love to see you on your bike - but if you don't want to cycle, and just want to have a guided tour of the exhibition, we'll be back at Y Nyth, Bryngarw Park at approximately 12.30-1pm that afternoon and will be staying for a few hours - feel free to meet photographer Richard and author Amanda there!

THE RIDE

Suitable for adults and accompanied children over 7 who are able to steer and use their brakes, the ride starts at the bike stands outside the Bryngarw Park cafe.

The route then follows a road down the hill and out of the park before picking up the traffic-free cycle trail which is rich in industrial history and takes the route of the former Ogmore-Llynfi railway line.

The cycle path is slightly uphill going out and we'll stop at the site of the former coal washery and 2nd Rhondda Main colliery before returning downhill to Brynmenyn and then back along the road and up the hill to the park (we can push up that hill if needed!).

There are limited places on the ride, please cancel if you can't make it. Please make sure you have read and understand the terms and conditions for taking part: https://www.letsride.co.uk/terms

And feel free to message the ride leader with any questions - we can't wait to see you!
