About the route
Head towards Embleton taking the road to Higham Hall. Ascend and descend Higham Hill. Follow the road towards Bassenthwaite Lake then the sailing club. Caution crossing the A66. Take the road past the Pheasant Hill, heading towards Wythop Mill. Climb up past Peel Wyke forest and Sale Fell but remember to stop and admire the views over Bassenthwaite Lake. Continue through Wythop Mill and ascend the short but sharp hill out of the hamlet. Follow the road for several miles until you reach the crossroads, past the Hundith Hill hotel. Caution crossing the road. Stop and admire the views down the Lorton Valley. Meander back towards Cockermouth via Southwaite Mill and Paddle school.
