About the route
Head out of Cockermouth towards Embleton and take the road to Higham Hall. Ascend and descend Higham Hill. Follow the road over Ouse Bridge and head towards Castle Inn. Cross the A591 and take the road to Bassenthwaite Village. At the village pub continue on the road towards Orthwaite. Follow the tree lined road and admire the wild bluebells in the woods beside the stream. At the junction take a right turn and after a small climb enjoy the descent to the next right hand turn, Once again enjoy another descent back into Bassenthwaite village. Follow the village road back to the pub for refreshments. Back track to Cockermouth via Castle Inn, Ouse Bridge but continue along the road towards Embleton, parallel to the A66. Finish the route back in Cockermouth.
