Ardrossan Pier

A day trip to Arran, with the intention to complete one anti-clockwise circuit of the island (that way we get to finish on a good downhill). The basic plan is to get the 0945 ferry from Ardrossan - train leaves central at 0834 (also check https://www.facebook.com/events/362574773846653/) to ensure we take the minimum number of vehicles possible. Head off towards Lochranza, via the biggest climb of the day. Stop at Kinloch Hotel, Blackwaterfoot for lunch. Back to Brodick for the 1800 ferry. If we miss that ferry there is another to follow. The route is 55 miles, so we are looking to average around 11mph to ensure a chilled out lunch. (You can choose to go faster or slower obviously). The cost is around £11 for return ferry and about £3-£4 for parking at the ferry terminal. £17.30 if using train/ferry combo. There are other options if people want to explore them, ie a figure of 8. Just the northern or southern portion of the island using the String rd. There is obviously also the option of making a weekend of it, the choice is yours. Check out the route and profile here (also the low speed that allowed lunch and connection of two ferries suggested above) http://connect.garmin.com/activity/110985502
