Chorleywood Road Loop via Tring Reservoirs and Poppies Cafe

A good level of fitness, road confidence and bike handling are required. This ride is mainly along quiet B roads through pleasant Chilterns countryside, with the odd village and old town en route. We have a mile's climb shortly after leaving Chorleywood station and then descent into the Chess valley and gentle climb up through Chesham. Shortly after leaving Chesham, and once well warmed-up, we have the main challenge of the route: seven miles of undulating climbs starting with a 9% hill. We then descend down towards Tring and around the reservoirs before heading to our pitstop at the Musette Cafe near Aldbury at 1pm for a half hour break. A few miles after our break we have another briefer climb that goes up to 8% as we return to Chorleywood skirting to the west of Berkhamsted and through the villages and greens to the south. We are aiming to return to Chorleywood station by 3pm, which requires maintaining a minimum average pace of 10-12mph up hill and down. Ideally, we will maintain a slightly faster pace and enjoy an earlier break at the cafe.

Please ensure your bike is in good working order, you have spares and kit with you, and are dressed for the ride and the weather (including bicycle helmet). Water and snacks are a good idea, and money for the cafe which is shortly after half way.
