Charity ride to The Woodhead Mountain Rescue HQ

If any of our Ride Leaders or other groups would like to organize their own ride to get to the HQ for 11:30, that’s fine, just let me know you are doing this (messenger) and numbers for catering purposes nearer the time.

The Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team (WMRT) provide emergency medical care for our local community, including mountain bikers, walkers and runners. I am sure we have seen articles in our local papers where they have been called out to rescue mountain bikers, who have broken bones etc., in Wharncliffe/Grenoside Woods. The WMRT are totally self-funded and need about £35,000 per year to operate, which has been difficult for them to maintain during the pandemic.

I intend to start the ride from Wentworth Industrial Park at 09:30 going onto Cote Green Car Park, Wortley, (S35 7DL) for 10:00, anyone who wants a shorter ride, or wants to cycle up from Sheffield/Deepcar can meet us there, this should also alleviate car parking spaces. I intend for us to arrive at the Mountain Rescue HQ (HD9 1TP, marked as Blossom Barn Weddings on Google Maps) for about 11:30.

The route will mainly be good tracks & trails, with the final 2 miles being on road (uphill), before arriving at their HQ.

When we get to the HQ there will be Teas/Coffee, Cakes and even Bacon Sandwiches, a generous donation for these, can be made either by cash or card reader. There will also be the opportunity to buy some of their merchandise.
