A celebration ride in partnership with Inspiring healthy lifestyles to watch the Tour of Britain pass through Haigh Woodland Park. The route will start at Robin Park Arena taking you up to Orrell, then onto some challenging hills, Alma Hill, Ashurst Beacon and Appley Lane North. We then head into Wrightington before stopping at Eccleston to see famous Bradley Wiggins Gold Letter Box for a short refreshment break. The ride will then take us down through Heskin and Coppull, before arriving in Standish where we will then climb Red Rock into the Haigh estate. This road will be closed to cars from approx. 12:30pm, so we should have a little cheer from the crowds waiting for the Tour to pass. Upon arrival secure parking will be available. Once bikes are parked, tea/coffee and a well earned piece of cake will be provided for riders. You’ll then be free to enjoy the entertainment at Haigh, watch the Tour of Britain pass, then watch the finish on the big screen.
This is a Linear ride but if riders would like to return to Robin Park Arena as a group, leaders will provide this after the event at around 4pm.
The route is suitable for a road bike/hybrid and helmets are compulsory. Please bring tools and spare inner tubes for your bike. Water and snacks are advised and a small amount of money to purchase refreshments on route or upon arrival at Haigh Woodland Park. A lock is essential to secure bikes within the parking zone. Please bring your own bike and helmets.
