Causey Capers
22 miles / 1100ft
Steady pace (if not easygoing, because of the climbing), but note this is a challenging route - Expect to be out for about 4-4.5hrs in total.
Winter riding - please bring enough clothing to keep yourself warm and also front and rear flashing lights for visibility.

Ride/route description:
A MIXED TERRAIN, partially linear, partially circular ride to Causey Arch Cafe. Your lungs will be given a workout on the way there, with a long steady climb and a short, steep hill that some will most probably need to push up just before the cafe stop...but what goes up...
A much 'easier' ride after the cafe stop - although there are still a couple of 'uppy' bits and a couple of stretches of rough and rugged terrain on the return route. (You've been warned!)
A couple of new bits for those who ride with us regularly.
Suitable for bikes with robust tyres only. Absolutely no skinny/road tyres.
If anyone wants to join from the direction of town, we can arrange a pickup point at Dunston Staithes (dropping off at Derwent marina / metro centre on the way back) - send a message if you want to meet us at the Staithes.

Please note - Ride leaders are VOLUNTEERS and give up their time for free. We DO NOT get paid by British Cycling. So if you've something to say - please say it kindly!
If you sign-up then your plans change, please ensure you cancel your place so we know not to expect you.

Safety information - please read:
* Repeat any calls that you hear or signals that you see (such as arm signals or calls such as ‘stopping’) so that riders behind you know what to expect
* In large groups, if you realise there’s a big gap between you and the person behind you, try and notify the leader.
* Although we don’t leave anyone behind, have a plan to get home if you’re unable to continue with the ride for any reason.
* If you find that we’re close to your home as we get towards the end of the ride, let the leaders know that you’ll be leaving the group.

THE OTHER BORING BUT IMPORTANT BITS....
Please make sure your bike is in working condition PRIOR to arriving for the ride and bring a spare inner tube to fit your tyres (check the valve type too!) and/or a puncture repair kit. The leaders can help you fix a puncture, but only if you have the right size inner tube for your bike or a puncture repair kit!

If the weather is poor, we will contact you if we are cancelling the ride and will do so by putting a message in the ‘conversation’ tab in the ride. You should receive a notification by email if there is a message. If you have not heard from us, we are still riding.

We may take photographs or videos of the ride and riders for publicity purposes. By registering to participate in the ride, you agree that photographic images of you, or containing you, may be used on our social media.

We look forward to seeing you.

Susan and Wendy
