Starting point

Coffi Co., Cardiff Bay

Cardiff
CF10 4PA

We’ll begin this gentle 6 mile ride in the heart of Cardiff Bay, outside the large Atradius building between the Senedd and the Waterguard pub. There's plenty of space outside to gather off the road and while keeping our social distance.

We'll start by heading past the Senedd (home of the Welsh Assembly), Pierhead building, Roald Dahl Plass, and the Wales Millenium Centre, dodge the busy restaurants and use the road as far as Techniquest, then rejoin the path along the waterfront.

From here we'll head for the Cardiff Bay Wetlands Reserve (which includes features such as the sandstone sculpture 'Cader Idris' by William Pye and a seat called 'Ship in a Bottle' by Melissa Gibbs, and a platform with views over the water).

After a route through Hamadryad Park (which takes its name from the seamen's hospital ship HMS Hamadryad which was moored nearby from 1866 until 1905), we cross the river and head down towards Penarth Marina, passing Cardiff International Pool and Cardiff International White Water, crossing the Pont-y-Werin (The People’s Bridge). This bridge was completed at a cost of approx. £4.5 million, opened in 2010 and allows us to access the other side of Cardiff Bay. Sometimes we wait as it lifts up to let the taller boats pass through.

We’ll pass Penarth Marina before cycling across the Cardiff Bay Barrage for our final part of the ride. This tremendous engineering feat was finally completed in 1999 and brings us back past the Norwegian Church to our starting location with stunning views over the Bay!

If everyone fancies it we can repeat the loop for an extra 6 miles, and maybe stop somewhere for a drink or a bite to eat along the way.
