This is an afternoon ride designed to burn a few calories and get healthier. Plan is to circuit Cannock Chase using a combination of wider tracks and narrower muddy trails. Its suitable for people who aren't worried about getting a bit muddy or going down a few slippery muddy trails with exposed tree roots etc. I know the chase well and we will start at Marquis Drive and soon join a narrow muddy track. We will travel past the War Cemetery, past the glacial boulder & ride a fun down hill muddy section from Brocton Coppice emerging at the stepping stones. We'll cross the stream & travel up the muddy side of sherbrook valley then cycle up hill back towards the visitor center before turning off and descending a long track down to seven springs. From there we'll continue on another track back towards stepping stones and cross the stream in the opposite direction. Then we can climb a different route for a while and cross the chase road Brocton before traveling up Oldacre brook and back across Chase Road. Then we'll return to the start point from there. Its all on different tracks not up and down the same ones. Estimated speed is 5-10 mph on the flatter parts so we aren't going to be racing but traveling at a comfortable pace. May vary the route depending on fitness & confidence levels of participants but expect distance to be between 14-18 miles. Not planning to stop too often but will probably take two or three short breaks on route. The route viewed on a map would form a couple of loops so there is opportunity to cut the route short if anyone doesn't want to go the distance. Half the route would be around 7 miles. I'm flexible and could change the route if requested by the majority as its just for fun and a bit of calorie burning so come and join in.
