WS15 2UQ

Birches Valley Forest Centre, Birches Valley, Lady Hill, Rugeley

This is a new route, which includes part of the trails we recently rode on the Cannock Chase Ramble.  The difference this time is we're riding them backwards. We start from Birches Valley (BV), head out from the bottom gate and pick up the trail a few yards down the road.  The route consists of fire roads, gravel tracks, woodland trails, mud, puddles and more climbing than on the previous ride.  We still get to ride through the water at the Stepping Stones; this time though, it's from a different direction. Our café stop will again be at Marquis Drive, where afterwards we will make our way down the Heritage Trail back to BV for a mooch around the bike shop if anyone wants to take a look.  The muddy state of some of the trails and the climbs makes this ride only suitable for mountain bikes and hybrids with knobbly tyres.  It is not suitable for hybrids with tyres more suited to roads as you will not have sufficient grip. Estimated distance is 13 miles.  Cycling time is also estimated as we’ve allowed for punctures and mechanicals. A helmet is strongly recommended.  Spare inner tubes are essential; please ensure you bring at least one each - we will provide the necessary tools in case of punctures and mechanicals.  Please wear suitable clothing and bring drinks and snacks to keep you going. Cost to park a vehicle at BV is £3.  Ticket machines are to your right once you've driven through the gate and on the top car park close to Go Ape. Please park on the top car park as it will be easier to meet up.  On entering BV, follow the road round and keep heading straight.  Turn left on entering the top car park and park about two thirds of the way along. The ride starts at 10.30 ... please arrive 15 minutes early for bike checks and route discussion. When booking your place, please ensure you add a contact number in case we need to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.  Also remember to add emergency contact details. We look forward to seeing you on the day. Sally and Lorraine   Please note:  To enjoy this ride, you need to be used to climbing and cycling through mud and water.  Cycling off-road is much harder and more tiring on the legs. If you have any doubts as to your ability to ride the route or are unsure about the suitability of your bike, please phone Sally on 07908 478137 or email [email protected].
