Starting at the Cambuslang Park-and-Ride, we cross the Clyde and head west to London Road which we cross and head up to Tollcross and Carntyne. From there we take the first significant climb on the route to get up to Hogganfield Loch. We move on to Robroyston Park on quiet roads and shared paths, swing round Springburn Park and then head to Bishopbriggs. We ride along the Forth and Clyde Canal to Cadder. From there we go to Balmore, and on to the second climb to Mugdock. From there we have an optional ride into the Country Park and then around the reservoirs above Milngavie. We continue south eventually connecting with the Kelvin Way which we follow down to the Clyde. Finally we head for Glasgow Green and on to Bridgeton, returning to Cambuslang along the cycle path on London Road. If the group prefers, we can return to Cambuslang following the longer but quieter route along the Clyde Walkway.

I describe this route as a leisure ride. It tries to avoid roads as much as possible. However, to get from the south side of Glasgow to the north involves using roads. There are also sections of the A81 near Mugdock and Milngavie which we cannot avoid. We head out to Bishopbriggs taking in Hogganfield Loch and Robroyston Park. We then ride along the Forth and Clyde Canal to Cadder and on upwards to Mugdock where we have a café stop. From there we have an optional ride into the Country Park and around the reservoirs above Milngavie. After that we head south, eventually connecting with the Kelvin Way which we follow down to the Clyde. We carry on to Glasgow Green and Bridgeton, and back to Cambuslang.

The route is classified as paved for much of its length. I aim to use cycle paths, shared paths and quiet roads as much as possible. However, we cannot avoid major roads in some instances. These include a section of the A81 Strathblane Road and the A81 Milngavie Road. The towpath section along the canal is shared with pedestrians.

We will stop at the Oscar’s Café in Easterton Farm Park for coffee and cake. https://www.eastertonfarmpark.com/oscars-cafe/ If anyone sees something they'd like to stop and look at, we'll stop.

This is Scotland and as we all know, the weather can be ‘variable’. Please check the forecast before leaving and come prepared. If the weather looks to be really terrible, the ride is likely to be cancelled.

We never leave anyone behind
