Starting from - We will have to catch the 10:27 train from Hatfield, calling at WGC at 10:31 and Welwyn North at 10:34. We need to change trains at Stevenage, but this should be an easy 5 minute connection from the same platform. Bikes are free and can be carried anywhere on board. Return tickets cost £6.60 from Hatfield and £6.10 from WGC. Unless you really are watching the pennies, don’t buy a single ticket in case you want to opt out part way. This month we will be exploring the North Herts end of the Great North Way - National Cycle Route 12. Since it is rather a long way there and back, we will be letting the train take some of the strain, by taking our bikes to the start of the ride at Arlesey Station. We then follow NCN 12 south, via Letchworth/Baldock, Stevenage and Knebworth, back to familiar WelHat territory. The route passes close to Stevenage and Knebworth stations, so you can let the train take a bit more strain if you wish. Arlesey to Hatfield is approximately 26 miles; WGC 23 miles; Knebworth 18 miles; and Stevenage 12 miles. We will of course be stopping for lunch somewhere en route.
